A little about Double R Barr's roots'

by Mark Desaulniers (webmaster) Oct 13,2006 Talk about Counrty bands. Here's a new one for you'all. Double R Barr is fresh on the block and sounding like it should. It all started last winter when a friend of mine and I had a few drinks on a saturday night. A few drinks into Laura and she's good and ready to tell ya how it is. It wasn't the first time she wined to me about failing to ivite her to the jam at my studio. I called her on it and said that singing Kareoke and fronting a band are two different things. She proceded to sit up on her kitchen counter and sing popular country songs a capella. I admit I was impressed. She had the basic skills of a vocalist and alot of heart. I had been involved in a lot of dead end gigs at the time and figured what the hell I'll start a country band with a greenhorn. Her old man Adrian piped up to mention when he was just a young ladd in England, he was given a choice to play professinal soccor or piano. He played soccor and has always had a dream of playing keys in a band. I figured one greenhorn, or two or three, ah hell bring it on. So I called on a guitar pickin friend of mine (Dave) who thought for years we should play in a band together and started the ball rolling. We reahearsed without a drummer for a while and old band member from Animal Cracker (Mark Bain.)stepped in to bang on the skins. Put it all together, friendship, good times, dedication, talent, and the heart and soul you'll find in the back 40 of Coombs and ya got two steppin boot scootin with Double R Barr at the wheel.

by Laura Blake (Lead Vocals) Oct 13,2006 I never really thought I'd be here, fronting a band, and fronting a good band. Some call me a 'green pea' (which I hate, by the way) because this is my first go at live music. I've never been in a band before and there are lots of learning curves. I'm getting the hand of it, fer sure. It's been fun hanging out with the boys, working together and making some noise. The studio has become one of my favorite places and a fantastic escape from the 'big wide world'. With Mark and Mark on rhythm adding a unique foundation to our group. My husband, Adrian (keyboards), Dave (guitar) and I are still a little wet behind the ears. If you've ever gone to high school, you will understand the relationship between a group such as this. A clique….. Almost family, definite friends and good company. It's not always easy getting everyone motivated or excited at the same time. Actually, it's not always easy getting everyone together in the studio at the same time. A good band practice is hard work, and if we're able to make progress it makes it all feel that much better.

he rest of the guys are at a loss for words

Laura Blakes Bio

HI've been singing for my whole life although I have never had any formal training. I was always told that I was pretty good, so I kept at it. I sang in elementary school concerts and took choir as an elective in middle school. My brother and father are both very musically talented, both vocals and playing instruments. One played bass and the other guitar. One of my earliest memories is of sneaking out of bed at night, hiding behind the couch, watching my father and his band jam in our living room. I also remember my brother's days of being in a band. All I can do with that is roll my eyes and smile.

Dave Parsons bio

Orphaned by my parents who were heavily into LSD, I was raised by my uncle and Aunt and their five daughters on a dairy farm in southern Alberta. It was here where I learned how beer was made at the Pilsner brewery, drink moonshine and lassoo cats. I also picked up my first guitar there and fell in love with country music. Uncle Bud (no relation to Pilsner) was a singer songwriter himself and one heck of a yodeler. And remember the five daughters? Well I also learned how to work a good slide and the meaning of kissin cousins.

Adrian Blake's bio

Born in Croydon, Surrey, England in August 1963. At 2 years old my parents moved to Chelmsford, Essex, England. Chelmsford is a historic town about 20 miles south east of London. It was the original Roman capital of the Uk and was known by the Romans as Chelsmerryford! I attended school as per instructions . Playing piano from the age of 4 & soccer. At age 9 I was no longer able to do both activities & decided soccer was more my thing. When RR barr was formed in my kitchen ( another drunken episode for sure ) I eagerly pulled out my little Yamaha and away we went. I friggin love the Band, the music we play & the moments we share. My wife, Laura is the lead singer & it's great to have that ( as well as many other things) in common. Mark on bass has been a friend for years now & is a good motivator in the studio, Dave on Lead guitar is our "form Nazi" & makes damn sure we learn our parts. Bainer on drums brings a great dynamic to all that we are & do. I thank them all for their time, effort & commitment. I look foward to playing more & more & my personal quest is to be known as the best Rodeo band in BC.
